True Love - Destinee & Paris
“True Love” - Destinee & Paris (2011, Universal)
speak of the devil, Carl Falk. i just stumbled across Destinee & Paris’ upcoming single, the one that i referenced in the last post. let me start by saying that, as talented as these girls are, very few people will probably take them seriously. they look like they just walked out of the Disney Channel clone factory, and the song sounds like just another generic radio pop song. nothing about the song feels groundbreaking. but it is catchy, i’ll give them that (or i’ll give Carl Falk that?). but underneath this song, sisters Destinee and Paris Monroe are hella talented. these girls can sing and their grasp on harmonies is pretty incredible. they both worked as background singers on this past season of american idol, and they have a popular youtube channel where they’ve covered big hits like Gaga’s “Born This Way” and Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.” i kind of shrugged these girls off when they were part of the dreadful mess that was the Clique Girlz, cycling through a 12-year-old girl’s iPod circa 2008. but they’ve been unbelievably persistent, and i’m glad because they’re very talented and they deserve to be seen as such in the Clique Girlz’ posthumous era. this song is enjoyable to listen to, and maybe it will surface on the radio, who knows? it’s a step in the right direction for them to be viewed as more mature and capable artists, but this isn’t the song that will jump start their career. but the future definitely looks promising.
